Vegan & vegetarian restaurants in Malaga

Published on August 07, 2017 by Elli Home / Blog / Food / Vegan

Vegan Malaga: to the uninitiated, this sounds like an oxymoron (isn’t Spain the land of cured ham?). But to those in the know (and we know, because we live here), Malaga, alongside cities like Berlin and Amsterdam, is one of the vegan capitals of Europe.

We want to show you where to find a killer vegan breakfast in Malaga, authentic and vegetarian tapas in Malaga and vegan cakes in Malaga. Read on to find out the best vegan and vegetarian restaurants in Malaga, you shouldn’t miss.

Top 5 vegan & vegetarian restaurants in Málaga

1. El Cañadú (100% vegan & vegetarian food)

This nice vegetarian restaurant in the city centre of Malaga is situated at a buzzy square called “Plaza de la Merced” right next to the house where Pablo Picasso was born.
The menu is entirely vegetarian and there are many vegan and gluten-free options. A great selection of different dishes makes this one of the best Veggie places in Malaga to visit.

Our Malaga Adventures insider tip: The vegan chocolate cake is to die for!

2. Recyclo Bike Café

This is not a 100% veggie place, but they have great options for vegetarians as well. It’s situated on a lovey square on the edge of the old town, close to the central market “Atarazanas” in Malaga. It is a great friendly, quirky, individual restaurant/café with a really nice vibe, serving great breakfast, tasty toasts, burgers, nachos, hummus and fresh juices. The concept of the café is all about bikes. Bicycles are hanging from the ceiling and the interior looks like a hip Amsterdam or Soho café and has an outdoor area as well.

Our Malaga City Adventures insider tip: Very good craft beer selection!

3. Astrid – Taperia Orgánica

If you are in the mood for different tapas, this is the place to be! It’s very cosy with a creative interior and the food is both healthy and delicious. It’s a short walk to the city centre yet a bit quieter than some eateries in the middle of town. They have a great variety of veggie options – Tapas, Soups, Burger, Hummus and great bakery, too!

Our Malaga City Adventures insider tip: You should see this place not only for the organic food, but also for their open wines: have a glass of Bracamonte in the afternoon sun.

Calle Calderón De La Barca 6, 29005 Málaga

4. El Calafate (100% vegan & vegetarian food)

They have a set menu for lunch and dinner (€9-12) with a few selections for each course, or you can choose “à la carte”. They have a great variety of vegetarian and vegan foods! Make sure that you work up an appetite, as the portions are huge. Notice: They have no exterior terrace, but the interior is cosy and homely with nice art work on the walls!

Our City Adventures Malaga insider tip: Try the vegetarian couscous and the cold garlic soup – A typical Andalusian soup called “ajo blanco”.

Calle Andres Perez 6, 29008 Málaga

5. La Casa Invisible

The Casa Invisible – the invisible house is a cultural and social centre in Málaga with the most beautiful courtyard café in the centre of Málaga. It is one of our favourite places in Málaga. The courtyard is filled with lovely wall art and other art pieces, and on Saturdays a small handmade market is taking place in the yard. It has a very local atmosphere and the people there are very friendly and enthusiastic about keeping Málaga an authentic and local friendly place to live. They serve great Tapas and food and always have many vegetarian and vegan options – Sundays are 100% vegan!

Our City Adventures Malaga insider tip: Try their homemade lemonade!
